| What is the meaning of wellness And What is meant by the term wellness? Wellness generally deals with the healthy balance of mind body and spirit. Traditionally, the broadest definition of wellness has always dealt with the healthy balance of mind, body, and spirit. This has been true for the past half century, although these terms and definitions were not popularized until the 1970s. As you study the discipline of wellness you will see that different authors can break this mind by the spirit aspect into an infinite number of subcategories. Again, traditionally, when dealing with what is the meaning of wellness there are six subcategories: Emotional – a motion all wellness generally deals with the area of feelings and emotion. Ideally, one would be able to keep their emotions in balance and cope with things like stress. Further, emotion wellness helps individuals to have satisfying relationships with friend’s family and others. Finally, promotional wellness deals with awareness and sensitivity of self and others. Intellectual – intellectual wellness emphasizes knowledge skills. These would include all of the intellectual activities like learning creativity and interesting new ideas. Occupational – occupational wellness deals with how an individual pursues their work. One who has occupational wellness would have a pleasant, happy, and satisfying work life. Physical - physical wellness deals with the body part of the traditional wellness model. This is also known as the physical dimension of wellness. Physical wellness goes beyond the absence of disease. Physical wellness involves individuals taking responsibility for their own health, and the ability to work with their Dr. or health provider and being true partners in health. Social – social wellness deals with synergy with nature family and others in the community. Spiritual – spiritual wellness deals with the philosophical, or in some cases, religious aspects of one’s life. What is meant by the term wellness? The real problem has been effectively doing or managing all three. The major roadblocks to effectively achieving true wellness of mine body and spirit include time and convenience. It should also be noted that discipline, knowledge, in training are also important in achieving true wellness. There are many books that will give you the knowledge necessary to achieve wellness. Likewise, there are many courses that can help train you to achieve true wellness. However, the roadblock for most of us seems to be the discipline, thyme, and convenience. In most of our busy lives, we generally have enough trouble trying to manage and maintain the things that we already do. It can be quite problematic two and a new discipline. This would be true for wellness as well as anything else. The good news is that now modern technology offers ways for us to help overcome the obstacles of time, discipline, inconvenience. At first, technology seems like a distant and inappropriate ally with wellness especially when defining what is the meaning of wellness. But, the way you need to look at it is that technology doesn’t achieve wellness, rather, technology helps you overcome the obstacles ports wellness. Anything that can help you overcome the obstacles torch wellness can make it easier for you to achieve it. Increasingly, this technology comes in more appropriate forms like books, software, and smart phone applications. |
